A Beautiful Region of France

Why choose the Languedoc for your holiday destination?

For a start, this region of France enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per annum.

This means that annual holidays aren’t restricted to the height of the summer months, spring and late autumn are just as beautiful in the Languedoc.

Steeped in History

Occitanie, formerly Languedoc

The history of the Occitanie region is one that stretches back millennia and takes in a myriad of cultures, customs and traditions, many of which endure to this day. Magnificent Roman remains and ancient Greek origins, the Cathars and the influence of Spain and Catalonia; Languedoc’s diverse history makes this a fascinating region to explore.

Place to see fish

Mirepeisset

The name of our village Mirepeisset literally means 'the place to see fish' - no doubt due to the proximity of the river Cesse (just behind La Souqueto), and the Canal du Midi itself and small Tapas bar a short walk away down a path shaded by mature Plane trees.

Relax on the water

The Canal du Midi

The Canal is 240 km long, starts at Bordeaux and ends at Sete, on The Med.

The canal is considered one of the greatest construction works of the 17th century. We are a 15 minute walk away along a stunning avenue of Plane trees.

300 days of sunshine

Walking & Cycling

Cycle or walk out from our back and visit the Canal du Midi or the foothills of the Black mountains. Cycle on tracks and quiet lanes to any one of our 12 local restaurants for a spot of lunch!

Local Villages

Seasonal Produce

How could one possibly resist all that fabulous seasonal produce on display in the colourful open air markets throughout the year at local villages such as Olonzac or St. Chinian?

Food and Art

Cultural Life

The pretty neighbouring village of Le Somail throughout spring and summer has cafes, restaurants and art galleries as well as a floating 'epicerie' and a must-visit bookshop of ancient books.

sun and shingle

Gin Clear Rivers

We are situated a stone's throw from the stunning River Cesse. Along its banks are many small shingle beaches and secret swimming places, perfect for spending the day. We can even show you a wonderful walk down to a disused water mill at Minerve where you can take a picnic and bathe in the cooling river Bryan.

If you enjoy kayaking, we highly recommend that you head for the River Orb at the stunning village of Roquebrun where you can hire craft.

sail and surf

Mediterranean Life

The beaches of The Med are within 40 minutes' drive of La Souqueto B&B. At Grussian one can learn to sail, wind or kite surf. Or, for the lovers of natural beaches we can give you directions the most perfect spot that only the locals visit. Bage, Peyriac-de-Mer and Leucate are a must to visit too!

vineyards

A Weekend of Wine

And of course one of the biggest attractions in this wonderful region is its vine yards and the famous Minervois wines. Every year (May/June) we organise an event we call 'a long weekend of wine'. Its a tour of out of the way domains led by the owners of the vineyards followed by a wine tasting and food. Its fully catered and transport is provided. Please contact us directly for more information.
